Some useless things I've learned recently.
Alan Curbishley's real name is Llewellyn. Growing up in Forest Gate, it's easy to see why he changed it to Alan.
&
Des Lynam is an Irishman. I didn't think there was a man more English than good old Des, but as it turns out, he's from County Clare.

At the time of the Anglo-Saxon invasions*, the Irish were also invading Britain.
*it's a LOT more complicated than that. Often, British (= Welsh-speakers (-ish)) and Anglo-Saxon Kings were allied against other British Kings, or other Anglo-Saxon Kings, or other alliances of both. Then there were Vikings in the mix. One of the reasons it took centuries for England to become English.
Another is that the process wasn't just driven by military factors - because the Anglo-Saxons controlled the easiest routes to foreign goods from the continent, they became wealthier, and got higher social status. Learn (Old) English and join the nobs!
The Irish conquerers of bits of Wales became Welshified with the passing of time, making things even more complicated.

Technically the Earth doesn't revolve around the sun.
Both the sun and the earth revolve around the centre of gravity between the two.
The fact that this point is inside of the sun doesn't mean the earth revolves round the sun.

Anyway the Italians just used a funny shape for THE unknown, and the French (in the incarnatination of Descarte) started using letters for unkowns, so you could have more than one unknown.

Obviously, this quickly became a mess with higher roots.
Italians to the rescue, with fractional indice notation.

So, a Welsh bloke invented "=".
A German bloke invented "+" and "-". (at around the same time as Record was doing his stuff).

I don't reckon Lee and Perrins will work (the closest thing in English cuisine), but maybe Thai fish sauce will.
